籠神社（元伊勢籠神社）／Kono Shrine (Motoise Kono Shrine)

丹後国一宮として高い社格を持つ古社で、伊勢神宮に祀られる天照大神・豊受大神が、伊勢へ遷る前にこの地で祀られていたという伝承から「元伊勢」と呼ばれます。山陰道唯一の大社ともされ、格式・由緒ともに非常に重い一社です。主祭神は彦火明命で、境内には伊勢神宮と籠神社にのみ許されるとされる五色の座玉が見られます。天橋立の北側に位置し、天橋立観光とあわせて訪れやすいだけでなく、奥宮の眞名井神社まで含めて巡ると、神話性と聖地感がより強く感じられます。

Kono Shrine, often called Motoise Kono Shrine, is one of the most important shrines in northern Kyoto and the Ichinomiya of former Tango Province. It is known as a “Motoise” shrine because tradition says that Amaterasu Omikami and Toyouke Omikami were worshipped here before being transferred to Ise. Located on the northern side of Amanohashidate, it is famous for its high status, ancient lineage, and sacred atmosphere, and many visitors also continue on to the nearby Okumiya Manai Shrine.
